An assembly and logistics centre for a newly formed industrial electrical products company has opened in Durham – and is already looking at expansion.

Watt's Control Ltd, which is to develop and bring to market a variety of innovative electrical products for industry, has agreed a three-year lease for Unit 39, Enterprise City, Durham Gate, Spennymoor.

The 900 sq ft unit, located on the Enterprise City business estate will act as the company’s main assembly and distribution centre.

Peter McGurr, director of Watt’s Control Ltd, said by taking on the unit it was looking to generate revenues in excess of £1 million within the next 18-24 months, and was aiming to take on between ten and 12 members of staff within the same timeframe.

However, within just a few weeks of launching, activity levels of the company are such that it is already looking to take on a further 3,000 sq ft of space at Enterprise City.

“We have partnered with an Indian manufacturer of electrical transformers and will represent their interests in the UK and Europe via the warehousing and distribution of their highly specialised products,” he said.

“We have selected Enterprise City in Spennymoor as the main distribution location due to a combination of the quality and cost of the units and its excellent links to the main northern UK road, rail and air infrastructure.”

Andrew Barrett, asset manager at London & Cambridge Properties, said: “Enterprise City is a popular business and industrial estate in county Durham and this unit is ideal for Watt’s Control Ltd as it begins to make its mark in the industry.”

Enterprise City is located on Durham Gate, which is the largest mixed-use regeneration scheme in the North East of England.  Enterprise City is a 300,000 sq ft secure and popular business location offering a mix of industrial, warehouse and office accommodation for a wide range of businesses.

The estate benefits from 24hr CCTV estate security, free car parking and an onsite management team.

There are more than 30 tenants that span industrial, commercial and technological activities, including Boots the Chemist, Durham Police, and Just Sport (Group) Ltd.
