The Concourse Shopping Centre in Skelmersdale is to host a regular community craft market after a successful launch in November.

#Made in WN8, a makers market, showcases the skills and talents of people living in the WN8 postcode area, which includes Skelmersdale, Wigan, Parbold, Chapel House and Dalton.

More than ten artisans and traders set up shop in the Community Kiosk, located in the Market Hall, on two consecutive Fridays and Saturdays in the run up to Christmas, selling a host of items, including hand-crafted gifts, homewares and decorations.

Dianne Fletcher, assistant manager of The Concourse Shopping Centre, said: “Hundreds of local shoppers visited our first two weekly markets and we know they’ll continue to be busy up until Christmas. We’re also committed to hosting them every month from January, which will give local traders and artisans a regular outlet to sell their unique pieces.

“We are offering the space the #Made in WN8 free of charge because we are squarely behind its aims to celebrate diversity, encourage social cohesion and community engagement, as well as encourage people to buy locally.”

The market was founded by Cath Carmichael and has been supported by the Well Skelmersdale Project and the School of Social Entrepreneurs (SSE), of which Cath is a fellow.
