People in Skelmersdale will have the chance to have their say on the proposed £4 million leisure scheme at Concourse Shopping Centre next week when it holds a public consultation.

The shopping centre has submitted a planning application for the major new development, which will include restaurants and cafes, and the town’s first multiplex cinema in many years.

It is hoped that work on the exciting project could begin as early as January 2015, if West Lancashire Borough Council planning committee gives it the go ahead next month.

Concourse Shopping Centre, owned by Skelmersdale Limited Partnership, a joint venture between London & Cambridge Properties and Threadneedle Investments, is holding two consultation days on the ground floor atrium area.

The first session takes place on Thursday October 30, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm. The following day, visitors can view the details between 10.30am and 2.30pm.

On both days, visitors can have a look at the latest artist impressions and detailed plans, as well as have their say about the scheme.

Jo Salmon, retail portfolio manager, said: “We are very keen to show people what the exact plans are for the shopping centre and we’d love to hear their views about it.

“We know Skelmersdale has been waiting a long time for something like this and we are in a position to deliver the scheme should planning permission be granted next month.

“It promises to be an exciting new chapter in Concourse’s story – in less than 12 months, people in Skelmersdale could be dining out and going to the cinema in their hometown. We are looking forward to talking to people about the plans.”

It is hoped that the name of the cinema operator soon, after entering advanced talks with one leading name.

If it gets the go ahead, the cinema and restaurants should open by September 2015.
