FINANCE DIRECTOR COMMITS TO 52 FUNDRAISING MARATHONS IN 2023

Robin Mawby, the UK Finance Director for LCP, which is headquartered in the West Midlands, set himself the challenge after turning 52 this year to help raise money for motor neurone disease. 

When he completes the tough challenge, he will have run a total of 1,362.4 miles.

He has already completed two marathons – in Milton Keynes and North Wales – and is aiming to take part in one organised race a week for the rest of the year, including Paris in the spring and Dublin in the autumn.

Robin has completed 40 marathons in the last three years in England, Wales and Scotland, with highlights including races in the scenic New Forest and Peak District, and 50 miles around the Gower peninsula in Wales. He also celebrated a personal best (PB) in Edinburgh when he chalked up a time of four hours six minutes.

Robin, who lives in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, said he was inspired to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association after seeing the incredible efforts of player Kevin Sinfield. The former professional rugby league raised more than £2.7 million last year for the charity after completing seven marathons in seven days.

“I’ve been touched by the stories of Doddie Weir, who died from MND last year, and Rob Burrow and Ed Slater, who also have this dreadful disease, and wanted to do something to help the charity,” he said.

“This is my effort to challenge this dreadful disease. Along with so many others, I will be making the most of every day, aiming to run 52 marathons at the age of 52.”
