PARTNERSHIP HOPES TO BRING GREATER AWARENESS OF CANCER SERVICES TO LGBTQ+ COMMUNITIES

The Arcadian, Birmingham and Macmillan Cancer Support are joining forces for this year’s Pride event to raise funds and vital awareness of the services available to the LGBTQ+ communities in the city.

Around 4,930 people in Birmingham are diagnosed with cancer on average each year and often, those in the LGBTQ+ communities face additional challenges accessing support. In order to raise awareness of the emotional, practical, financial and medical support available in the city, volunteers from the charity and The Arcadian will take part in the parade and offer support and advice at The Centre itself.

John Harrison, Relationship Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support said “We estimate there are 3 million people living with cancer in the UK, but this is expected to rise to almost 4 million by 2030. With issues often accessing the right information or treatment, LGBTQ+ persons may have questions about how their sexuality and gender identity could affect the risk of cancer, or the screening or treatment they may need. As part of this year's Pride event, we are therefore delighted to be working alongside The Arcadian to bring greater awareness and clarity to the LGBTQ+ community. 

Rob Ellis, Asset Manager of the Arcadian which is owned and managed by national commercial property and investment company LCP, said: “We are absolutely delighted to partner with the Macmillan team raising awareness and funds during pride this year. Watch out for our special T shirts featuring  QR codes that let you donate whilst snapping those special selfie moments that make the weekend so memorable. We’ll also be stationed at The Arcadian so come and see us for advice and support. 

“What’s more, keep your eyes peeled for special events taking part across The Arcadian during the weekend.”
