A free art club has been launched in Dudley, thanks to a partnership between the Churchill Shopping Centre and a charity arts organisation.

Artspace will be hosting the drop-in sessions every second Saturday of the month LCP, which owns and manages the centre, agreed to fund the events.

Octobers event attracted 40 children and organisers hope that the next one in November will see even more craft-loving youngsters taking part in a mask-making session.

The art club is held outside the Iceland store and Ed Cartwright, of Artspace Dudley, which also occupies a unit at the Churchill Shopping Centre, said it would give families the chance to enjoy a fun activity while shopping.

“It’s always great fun to see children get stuck into their arts and crafts and we hope that as we hold more art sessions in the shopping centre in the coming months, we’ll see lots of youngsters taking part,” he said.

Rob Heald, asset manager at LCP, added: “Artspace is a great community project and we were only too pleased to support the craft sessions for children at the Churchill Shopping Centre.”

The November 8 art session is puppet making, while December 13 will be a Christmas card making day.

Sessions run from 11am-2pm and are on a drop-in, no booking basis. Children of all ages are welcome to attend.
